Taskbar Won’t Hide – Auto-Hide Taskbar in Windows 10

Taskbar Won’t Hide – Automatically hiding the taskbar can be a great way to add a bit of extra space to your desktop. But occasionally, it may stubbornly refuse to hide when it should. Here are some ideas which could again cover the Taskbar.

What Causes the Taskbar to Not Auto-Hide?

When you use the auto-hide feature of the Windows taskbar, it will remain hidden until you need your attention from a device. This typically means that the app’s taskbar button would start flashing at you for regular applications. For example, when you get a new call the Skype software may show the taskbar icon. In this scenario, you can easily press the button in the taskbar to let the app realize you’ve seen what you wanted to see and the taskbar will disappear again.

Two different activities will trigger the taskbar to hang around with background apps that have an icon in the device tray. The first is whether you get an icon badge — or a real shift in the icon — that means that the device wants your attention. The Slack software, for example, shows a tiny red dot on its standard icon to let you know when you got a new message.

The second case often happens in models of Windows 8 and earlier when warning bullion shows up. That often makes the taskbar visible until you dismiss the message. Obviously, these are often easy to disable, or you can configure alerts to prevent seeing them. This situation usually doesn’t arise in Windows 10 as alerts go out on their own so you will see them in Action Center later on.

However, in some instances, an app is simply not constructed so right. To leave the taskbar active, will cause a warning in Windows, which does not show something available for you to lock. Combined with the capacity of Windows to conceal screen tray icons this issue becomes much worse.

Verify your taskbar settings and then you can restart explorer:

Only right-click the Taskbar and pick “Options” from the context menu (or “Properties” whether you are using Windows 8 or 7) to ensure sure we‘re on the same level. In Windows 10, that brings up the Settings app’s “Taskbar” page.

Make sure the option “Hide the taskbar automatically in Desktop mode” is enabled.

You might be able to switch off notifications in the settings of the device for apps that generate balloon or toast notifications. Windows also provides an automated way of monitoring each of these forms of alerts.

It’s a little different depending on the edition of Windows you‘re using, so we suggest checking out our complete guides to configure and modify device tray icons, and use and configure the Windows 10 Action Center.

Also, alerts in Windows 10 usually do not trigger auto-hiding taskbar issues, but updates in previous iterations will definitely do so.
